The Commission took both Sheffield-linked sites offline before deciding anything — a suspension is not a finding — and customers can still withdraw.

The Gambling Commission suspended the remote operating licences of BresBet Ltd and Bet St George Ltd after enquiries that it said revealed suspected social responsibility and anti-money laundering failings. The regulator has opened statutory reviews under the Gambling Act. The suspensions stay in place until the Commission is satisfied the businesses are compliant. Neither the detail of what it found nor a timetable for a decision has been published.
BresBet runs bresbet.com under its remote licence. Bet St George runs betstgeorge.com under its own remote licence. Customers may still access accounts and withdraw funds. Both sites remain contactable through their websites. The Commission told the operators to treat consumers fairly and keep them informed. BresBet posted that the service is temporarily unavailable and is not accepting bets.
The pairing is not coincidental. NEXT.io and theigaming.eu, citing Companies House, report that both companies sit in Sheffield and share a director, Nicholas James Brereton. NEXT.io dates BresBet’s incorporation to March 2021 and its remote permissions to February 2025, covering bingo, casino, real-event betting and virtual-event betting — all now marked suspended. It dates Bet St George’s incorporation to June 2025, remote permissions to December 2025 and a public launch to March 2026, a date The Independent also gives. iGaming Business says Sarah Laycock, BresBet’s managing director since 2025, resigned from both companies earlier this month.
Neither company publishes gambling revenue. NEXT.io, citing BresBet’s accounts to March 2025, reports 14 average employees and £3.5 million owed to creditors within a year. Bet St George has not filed accounts. A statutory review can end in no further action, extra licence conditions, a financial penalty or settlement, or revocation. Suspension is not a finding of guilt. It is the Commission taking the sites offline while the investigation is still running, rather than waiting to settle after the fact.
That sequencing is the industry point. QuinnBet and other operators this year closed with payments in lieu of a penalty once reviews finished. BresBet and Bet St George have been stopped from trading first. For a six-month-old brand with no filed accounts, a long pause is a commercial event before it is a regulatory one. Racing and greyhound sponsorships that carried BresBet branding have no published date for when the operator can take bets again.
Also: QuinnBet (Gibraltar) Limited agreed a regulatory settlement with the Commission on 20 August over anti-money-laundering and remote customer-interaction failings. That case ran the ordinary way round: the operator kept trading while the review proceeded, and money changed hands at the end of it. BresBet and Bet St George were stopped first, which is the whole difference.
